The dataset is a raster map layer produced through a linear regression model. In addition to the Espoo, Helsinki and Vantaa, the dataset covers some parts of the neighboring municipalities. The regression model has been calibrated in the Turku region, and thereafter applied in the Capital Region. The regression model has been calibrated in the Turku region using the measured air temperatures of the TURCLIM local climate observation network (https://sites.utu.fi/turclim/) as the response variable. The explanatory variables include factors related to water areas, relative elevation, and urban land cover. Part of those datasets are available as separate datasets in Avoindata.fi site. Each situation’s modeling has been employed with the variable-specific most appropriate zone size of the explanatory variables, determined through correlation analysis and subjective considerations based on the theoretical background of urban climatology. After the model calibration performed in the Turku area, the model has been applied in the Capital Region, from which the same explanatory variables used in model calibration in Turku have been available. When applying the model in the Capital Region, also reference temperatures of Finnish Meteorological Institute have been utilized. The resolution of the temperature dataset is 100 meters and it covers land areas.
The data is produced as part of the HERCULES consortium/project funded by the Academy of Finland’s Climate Change and Health (CLIHE) research program implemented during the years 2020-2023.
