Financial aid for students: Number of recipients and financial aid paid out

This dataset is associated with the dynamic report titled Financial aid for students: Number of recipients and financial aid paid out, which is part of the Kelasto statistical database.

The dataset contains data on the number of recipients of student financial aid, the amount of aid paid out and the average amounts of aid during the reference period. Recipients of student financial aid include persons who have received regular or retroactive payments of study grant or housing supplement or held a government guarantee for a student loan during the reference period. In addition to regular or retroactive payments, the amount of aid paid out also includes repayments of student benefits. The average amount of student financial aid (euros per recipient) only takes into account regular financial aid payments and the euro amount of the government's student loan guarantees.

Statistical data on recipients of student financial aid and on the benefits paid out are compiled per calendar year, per academic year, and monthly. The academic year starts at the beginning of August and ends at the end of July the following year. The dataset contains annual data from 2005 onwards, monthly data from 2018 onwards and data per academic year from 2005/2006 onwards.

The category of educational institution is determined on the basis of a number linked to the payment transaction. By default, recipients of financial aid are associated with the category of educational institution they were attending at the time of the most recent payment transaction during the reference period. With the selection "Basis for institution category: All educational institutions", recipients of financial aid are included in all categories of educational institution for which they have payment transactions in the reference period. However, they are only counted once in the total figures.

The category "Educational institutions abroad" includes recipients of financial aid who are completing a degree in a foreign educational institution.

The recipient’s age and municipality of residence correspond to the situation at the end of the selected time period. In the academic-year data, however, the age and municipality of residence correspond to the situation at the end of the autumn term.
